Marcy Whitebook founded and serves as the co-director of the Center for the Study of Child Care Employment (CSCCE) at the University of California at Berkeley. Her research documents the current status of the workforce and analyzes how workforce policies contribute to inequitable services for children, impede effective teaching practice, and often pose risks to the personal and familial well-being of the workforce itself. Recent co-authored works include From Unlivable Wages to Just Pay for Early Educators (2019); Early Childhood Workforce Index (2018); Teachers’ Voices: Work Environment Conditions That Impact Teacher Practice and Program Quality (2018);and Worthy Work, STILL Unlivable Wages: The Early Care and Education Workforce 25 Years after the National Child Care Staffing Study (2015).
